Fiorentina have made an enquiry for new free agent Jan Vertonghen according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper La Nazione.

Vertonghen’s contract with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur expired yesterday and he has drawn no shortage of links to clubs, especially ones in Serie A.

On top of Fiorentina being interested in him, Inter, Napoli and Roma have all also shown an interest in signing the experienced Belgian national team central defender, who spent the last eight years of his career in north London with Spurs.

The report from the Florence based news outlet goes on to explain that Fiorentina will only make a move for Vertonghen once they understand what will happen with Nikola Milenkovic and German Pezzella.

This past season the 33-year-old former Ajax player made 30 appearances across all competitions. In 2250 minutes on the field, he scored two goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
