Tonight’s match between Inter and Napoli has a symbolic meaning to it according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The match is symbolic in the sense that it will be Napoli handing over the reigns of being the anti-Juventus to Inter. In the last eight seasons, nobody has finished directly behind Juventus more than Napoli have, with them managing to do so four times.

Achieving a second place finish would give substance to the work that Inter have done throughout the season but Inter are not guaranteed a second place finish and cannot afford to take the foot off the gas in the final two games of the season.

Inter are currently occupying second place with 76 points to their name but third placed Atalanta and fourth placed Lazio are sitting on 75 points.

If Inter win tonight and Atalanta and Lazio fail to win their games, Inter will clinch a second placed finish before the final game this weekend, where they will take on Atalanta.
