Inter manager Antonio Conte is happy with what he seen from his team in the 2-0 win over Napoli which has pushed his side back into second place in the Serie A table with one game left of the season.
Goals from Danilo D’Ambrosio and Lautaro Martinez secured Inter an all important win against a Napoli side who had many changes to grab goals of their own but the visitors were ultimately unable to find a way past Inter captain and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.
“I am very satisfied. We played against an excellent team, which in recent years has always been the antagonist of those who won the Scudetto,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV after the match at San Siro.
“We also played under pressure because Atalanta had won, therefore it was important for us to respond. Everyone was ready, today I made several changes because we have played so many games close to one another. I have great faith in this group, I have always said it.”
The former Italian national team boss then went on to sing the praises of his team and urged the team to carry on in the same fashion.
“A good job has been done but I don’t know what the others think. I know very well that I have very high expectations and, often, you hide behind my person but here there is a professional group, which has matured and reduced the gap to many other teams.
“We must continue like this, with great seriousness. We must go home and look in the mirror in the right way beyond the few missteps. We must always give our all in order to give joy to the fans.”
In conclusion the 50-year-old was asked whether he felt that his side deserved to pick up all three points in the match.
“We started by pressing very high, as always. After the goal, we played several mini-games within the game itself and this is important. Beyond knowing how to prepare for a match, you must also know how to adapt.
“The defence were always active, even when we dropped deeper. In the second half we suffered very little and hade opportunities to increase the spoils. I am very happy.”
