Inter are one of three Serie A clubs who have an interest in signing Jan Vertonghen according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Belgian national team central defender recently became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and on top of Inter, it is understood that Roma and Fiorentina are keen on signing him too.

Whilst signing Vertonghen would give Inter another experienced head at the back., Roma are looking at Vertonghen as a potential replacement for Chris Smalling, if they are unable to land him on a permanent basis.

The report goes on to state that Fiorentina could be helped when it comes to signing him due to the presence of Franck Ribery in their side.

This season Vertonghen made 30 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he scored two goals and provided a single assist.
