When the Serie A schedule was released last summer, even the most optimistic of Inter fans would not have imagined that the Beneamata would remain unbeaten against their last two opponents Napoli and Atalanta. Inter ended their domestic season strong and the fans will surely expect Inter to challenge for the league next season.

In Bergamo, D’Ambrosio rose highest to score the fastest goal in the Serie A this season from a properly worked short corner. 50 seconds in and Atalanta already looked doomed. Conte’s men controlled most of the play and went two goals up as Ashley Young curled a peach of a strike past Sportiello who had replaced Gollini in the second minute.

Samir Handanovic – 6.5: Fairly quiet first half, apart from the fact that he took Zapata’s studs in his face. Much work to do in the second half and he did his part well.

Diego Godin – 7: Hello Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid. This was a classy performance. Almost always in the right positions and finally understands the 3-man defense.

Stefan de Vrij – 6.5: Unlucky to be booked, had a tough night against the highest scoring team in Serie A. Managed to keep his levels and his composure. Quiet leader.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7: Never one to back down from a tussle, Inter have a gem on their hands and he is growing sooner than any young prospect by the minute. Star.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 7: Another game on the last day of the season and another crucial goal from D’Ambrosio. Played his best game as a wingback in a Conte system.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: It is very difficult to see the work Nicolo does, but the class is always visible. Seems to be involved in everything in attack and defense at the same time.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Looks so much more comfortable in the deeper role, it is hard to imagine why Conte would play him in the hole behind the strikers. Kept it ticking.

Roberto Gagliardini – 5: When you try to play a new game on an old gaming console, it seems like you are a second late to everything. That was Gagliardini.

Ashley Young – 7.5: Absolute bargain for Inter. When he gets it right like against Atalanta, Conte’s system works flawlessly. The goal was beautifully curled in. Good in defense.

Romelu Lukaku – 7: Yes, Romelu did not score. His hold up play was crucial in Inter keeping the game under control. Created most chances tonight. Unofficial Capitano.

Lautaro Martinez – 6: Not his best night, but not his worst night by a long way. Involved a lot in the play and did not lack confidence or bite. Nice to see the hunger and fight.

Alexis Sanchez – 5.5: Moved a second too early or Sanchez would have had a goal. Continued his great form and looked confident as usual. Ran a lot throughout.

Milan Skriniar – N/A: Brought on to give Bastoni some rest. Got beaten once, but that was his only mistake. An important block on Zapata. Hopefully not his last game.

Cristiano Biraghi – N/A: Barely noticed Biraghi tonight in his 10 mins. Did not play long enough to get any sort of rating.

Christian Eriksen – N/A: Brought on in the 90th minute again, not enough to make any sort of impact.

Victor Moses – N/A: Same as Eriksen, just on to get D’Ambrosio a breather. His pace will be crucial off the bench in the Europa League against slower teams.

Antonio Conte – 7: Conte’s 3-5-2 worked perfectly. Surely the goal in the first minute made life easier but Inter kept the best attack in the league quiet. Onwards.

Piero Giacomelli – 5: De Vrij’s booking was too soft, most 50-50 decisions were quiet well handled. Should understand that Lukaku can be fouled too. Missed many fouls.

Inter – 7.5: All things considered, second place in a season like this is quite an achievement for the team. Now the next big challenge awaits in the next season.
