Teams who qualify for the Europa League semi-finals will have to stay in Germany rather than return to their home countries according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Following the quarter final win over Getafe, Inter returned to Milan and will return to Germany in the coming days ahead of Monday’s Europa League quarter final against Bayer Leverkusen, however they will not be able to do this if they overcome the Bundesliga outfit.

UEFA protocol states that clubs who progress must remain in Germany, where the remainder of the tournament is being carried out. The reason for this is to limit the potential for contagion by travelling back and forth between nations.

If Inter then win in the semi-final, where they will face the winner of Shakhtar Donetsk versus Basel, they will have to remain in Germany as well for the final, which will be held at the RheinEnergieSTADION on August 21.
