Bayer Leverkusen have not won a trophy since 1993, a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.
Bayer Leverkusen are Inter’s next opponents in the Europa League, with the sides to meet at the quarter final stage on Monday night, and are known as Vice-Kusen in Germany due to their last trophy win coming 27 years ago when they won the German cup against Hertha Berlin’s second team.
In short, the report states that Bayer Leverkusen are a team who are seemingly eternally unfinished and this season they have once again failed to take a leap in quality despite their squad and the promise it has.
Bayer Leverkusen had the fifth best attack in Germany this past season but their defensive record certainly let them down and had it not been for that they could have finished higher than fifth and perhaps won in the German cup final against Bayern Munich.
The report goes on to add that there is some uncertainty with regard to the defence. Jonathan Tah has found himself benched lately whilst Edmond Tapsoba is promising yet inexperienced and goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky appears to have lost the confidence he previously had in himself.
