Legendary former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has shared his belief that Inter pose the biggest challenge to Manchester United winning the Europa League this season.
Both sides could potentially meet one another in the Europa League final on August 21 at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne, Germany, which they are both just two victories away from with both sides in the quarter finals of the competition.
Inter are due to face Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in their quarter final whilst Manchester United will face Danish opposition in FC Copenhagen with both of these fixtures to take place on Monday August 10.
“It has never been easy to compete with Italian teams. For me, United’s biggest threat to winning the Europa League is Inter. Together with United they are the best team in the competition at the moment and if they meet in the final it will be a great match,” he explained whilst present in the studios of British broadcaster BT Sport last night.
“There will be great motivation for both sides but especially for Inter, think of Lukaku and how he left the club, it would be a great story to tell. I believe that United, if they are mentally on point, are superior to Inter. They have players superior to Inter.”
Inter are three time winners of the competition and last won it back in 1997/98 whilst Manchester United are one time winners. The Red Devils won the competition for their one and only time as recently as the 2016/17 season.
