Barcelona star Lionel Messi has purchased a luxury penthouse in central Milan, leading some to believe that a move to Inter is still on the cards, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Libero.

The report details how the 33-year-old Argentine genius has followed in his father’s footsteps and purchased a property in the Lombardy capital, which can see the Nerazzurri’s headquarters.

Whilst the decision seems to be mostly based on financial reasons, there is still a chance that it could be the first step towards a move to Inter.

Messi’s contract expires with Barcelona at the end of next season, the report continues, and talks to extend it are currently on hold due to the player’s poor relationship with current president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The star has a €700 million release clause, an incredible figure, but the possible purchase of the player would instantly make Inter the most talked about football club on the planet. Former national teammate and Nerazzurri vice president Javier Zanetti is currently exploring the idea.
