Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has shared his delight following Inter’s 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter final.
“Bayer Leverkusen is a good team but we did what we had to, we won and I’m happy for us, for the staff and for the fans. I give everything until the end for this team,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, a short while after the full time whistle.
The Belgian national team striker then went on to thank his teammates for their help in him achieving the record for most consecutive Europa League games with a goal.
“Now we have to rest and prepare for the next game. Without this team I cannot achieve my personal results, the boys help me a lot, tonight Alexis played in midfield and Young helped with my goal, so it is easier for me.”
The former Manchester United player, who joined Inter in a club record €65 million deal in the Summer of 2019, then went on to stress that he and his teammates must continue in this manner: “We have to continue like this and do better, the next game will be even more difficult.”
In conclusion Lukaku spoke on playing predominantely with his back to goal in the game at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.
“Playing with my back to goal? This is a something I have done from the beginning with the coach and we are improving. My strength is to attack from deep but we are improving in terms of team play.”
This season the 27-year-old has made 49 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 4000 minutes on the field in total, Lukaku has scored 31 goals and provided five assists for his teammates.
