Jan Vertonghen is on the brink of completing a free transfer to Liga NOS club Benfica according to a report from the online edition of Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Niuews.

The Belgian national team player is set to undergo a medical with the Portuguese powerhouses today ahead of putting pen to paper on a three year contract with them tomorrow.

Vertonghen is currently a free agent having left Tottenham Hotspur after the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season and although he drew strong links a host of Italian clubs, he looks set to continue his career in Portugal.

Inter, Roma, Napoli all showed an interest in him according to this report whilst other reports in the Italian media have stated that Fiorentina have also shown an interest in adding him to their ranks.

In addition to all of the Italian clubs, Manchester City, Valencia and Sevilla all expressed an interest too.
