Diego Godin has become fundamental for Inter in recent weeks according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Godin was expected to form an impenetrable backline alongside Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar when he joined the club ahead of this season but both he and Skriniar struggled to adapt to manager Antonio Conte’s three man defensive system.

Godin proceeded to lose his place in the team to youngster Alessandro Bastoni but Godin is now back in the team and is excelling alongside de Vrij and Bastoni whilst Skriniar has had to settle for starting on the bench as of late.

The experienced Uruguayan national team player has been rewarded for his hard work by Conte with an extended run in the team and he will have to put in another top performance on Monday night in the Europa League semi final against Shakhtar Donetsk if Inter wish to make it to the final.
