Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio discussed the Nerazzurri’s Europa League semifinals against Shakhtar Donetsk and the squad in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today, with his words appearing on Inter’s official website.

“We know Shakhtar and we’re studying them well, they’re a strong team with a lot of individuality. They’re fast and technical up front, they’ve always done well in recent seasons.

“They have something more on the wings than other teams. But we’re compact both defensively and offensively, we’ll face them as always, as a team, united.”

The 31-year-old Italian, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until the end of next season, touched on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku and how the player has been key for the club this year.

“Lukaku is a great forward, as are Lautaro and Alexis. I agree with what the coach said, Romelu is doing extraordinary things thanks to the team.

“Allowing him to score goals, helping him with his movements. He’s physically strong and we’ll try to make the most of him, especially in the opponents’ area.”

He revealed how happy he is playing for the Nerazzurri and the squad’s mentality ahead of their clash against their Ukrainian opponents.

“I’m having a good time, but the whole team is doing well. You don’t get to the semifinals with just individuals. The coach and staff allow us to get into the game always ready, knowing what we have to do.

“Then everyone has to put something in of their own. The secret is this, working hard and continuously, not taking anything for granted. You have to earn this jersey every day.”

Finally, D’Ambrosio touched on how there are no favourites between them and Shakhtar on Monday.

“There are no favourites, we’ll start as equals. Our strength is to take to the pitch with a determined team and a united squad.”

D’Ambrosio has made 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1936 minutes. In that time, he has scored four goals and earned his place in Conte’s squad, being favored for his tactical flexibility.

He may be offered a new contract at the end of the season according to several reports.
