Inter captain Samir Handanovic answered a quick question from a reporter during today’s press conference with coach Antonio Conte. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

He discussed what the squad need to do to reach the Europa League finals.

“To get to the final you need to play a better game than you already have, because the level rises with every game. Shakhtar is a higher-level team so we need to play a better match.”

Inter are playing in their first European semi-finals since the 2009/10 season, their Treble winning campaign under coach Jose Mourinho. Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte understands the importance of this evening’s clash.

Especially considering the meeting he will have with the club’s management upon the conclusion of the tournament, where transfer market targets and his future will be discussed.

The only meeting between Inter and Shakhtar was in the 2005/06 Champions League qualifiers, where the Milanese club came out winners over two legs 2-1 on aggregate.

The Ukrainian side are looking to reach their second ever European final, with their first being in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, where they beat Werder Bremen in the final.
