Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has revealed that the team have been helped by the fact they have had a week in between games ahead of tonight’s Europa League semi final with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Since the 2019/20 season got back underway in June, Inter were playing games every few days and therefore had little time to rest and prepare for the next match but between their Europa League quarter final win over Bayer Leverkusen and tonight’s match they have had a whole week to rest and prepare.

In an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV ahead of the match, he echoed the comments of Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“We need to know that it will be painful and that we have to grit our teeth. There will be difficult times but we must not lose our bearings, we have our weapons and we want to put them into practice. As I always say, may the best team win.”

He then spoke on the rest Inter have had.

“It has been a long week, we have rested and worked well, we weren’t used to it. We will see if we have prepared well enough.”

Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk are due to face off in the coming hours at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The winner of the one legged affair will take on Spanish side and five time Europa League winners Sevilla in the final on Friday night.
