Legendary former Inter captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his belief that Inter are the favourites for their Europa League semi final clash with Shakhtar Donetsk later on today.

The two sides are due to face off at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, at 21:00 local time today and the winner of the match will face five time Europa League winners Sevilla in the Europa League final this coming Friday at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne, Germany.

“Conte has found the ‘right’ team, the one that he had in mind. He had tried after the lockdown to put Eriksen back amongst the starters but he returned to the 3-5-2 which is his trademark,” Bergomi explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Rome based news outlet.

“He rearranged the defence that now suffers little and in my opinion Inter are favourites against Shakhtar because although the Ukrainians have quality, they concede a lot.”

Inter, who are three time winners of the competitions and Shakhtar Donetsk, who have won it once, have met twice previously in history with those meetings dating back to the 2005/06 season.

The clubs met in the qualifying rounds for that year’s edition of the Champions League. Inter won the tie against the Ukraianian club 3-1 on aggregate.
