Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has revealed that he and his teammates dreamed of tonight after their 5-0 hammering of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League semi final tonight.

Lautaro opened the scoring for Inter in the first half and grabbed himself a second in the third half after Danilo D’Ambrosio had doubled the Nerazzurri’s lead a little while before. Romelu Lukaku rounded off Inter’s scoring with a brace late on.

“It was an incredible night, the kind we dreamed of. It had been a long time since I played that well, and in a semi-final we proved Inter are ready for great things. We’re ready for the Final,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the full time whistle at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.

The Argentine player then went on to speak about the goals that he scored and what they mean to him, especially give his recent struggles in front of goal.

“These goals give me so much, as there was a period when I wasn’t at my usual levels, but this experience helps you to grow.

“I am very happy with the way the team is playing and showing such character. We’re getting better game by game and I am happy on a personal level too, as I am going to have my first child, so I dedicate the goals to my wife and family.”

Next he spoke on the continuous improvement that the Nerazzurri have made over the course of the season.

“We just keep getting stronger, showing maturity with both young players and more experienced ones like Samir Handanovic, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Diego Godin. They show the way and we all follow.”

In conclusion he spoke on Sevilla, who they will face in the Europa League final this coming Friday.

“Sevilla are a very strong side, we will try to rest over the next few days and prepare for this special match that we’ve been dreaming of. We hope it all goes well and Inter take the trophy home.”
