Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano discussed Nerazzurri forward Alexis Sanchez, his debut season with the Milanese club and the other forwards in the squad when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference at the 19th Enel 2020 Cup yesterday. His words were noted by Chilean media outlet Adnradio.cl.

“I am very happy because it was crucial for Alexis, from a physical and footballing point of view, to find the level we all wanted to see at Inter. It’s a shame that he got injured in the last Europa League game, because Inter need him.”

He touched on how the former Arsenal and Manchester City forward began to impress after the restart of the season.

“After the pandemic he was the extra man at Inter, he wanted to prove he was the player who makes the difference, especially in a one-on-one, scoring goals and providing assists. I saw Alexis at his best and at the highest level, this helped Inter a lot in making the decision to sign him. Three more years in Milan will do him a lot of good.”

Finally, Zamorano touched on how Sanchez can look to compete with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez for a starting spot in the squad.

“He can compete with them, be the hero, there is also the possibility that they can play together, there is no doubt that Alexis has the strength and mentality to compete in the same way with these two monsters and be able to show that he is more than a bench player.”

Sanchez has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Nerazzurri, for a total of 1380 minutes. In that time, he has scored four goals and provided ten assists, impressing with his tireless work rate and quick bursts of pace. The player suffered an injury in the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen but is hoping to be fit in time for the final.
