Inter manager Antonio Conte has admitted he is happy for his squad and Inter fans following last night’s resounding 5-0 triumph over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League semi final.

Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring for Inter, who would go into the half time interval 1-0 up. Danilo D’Ambrosio doubled Inter’s lead and Lautaro would then treble it with his second of the game. Inter’s top goalscorer this season Romelu Lukaku scored the Nerazzurri’s final two goals.

“Honestly, there is great satisfaction on my part because we played this kind of game against strong opponents in Shakhtar. We were good and courageous,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match last night at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.

“The boys did exactly what we prepared and what we have been trying to do for a while. We knew that we could create difficulties for them. I am happy for the boys and for the Inter fans.”

The 51-year-old former Italian national team manager then spoke on the goal for the final which will take place on Friday night at FC Koln’s RheinEnergieSTADION.

“After ten years we reached a European semi-final and we are about to be in a final, it is not over but we will try to give them great satisfaction. The boys have great motivation to do well, they want to surprise and give satisfaction.”

The former Juventus boss then went on to speak about Inter’s opponents in the final, Sevilla, who are a team who know all to well what it takes to win the competition having won it five times in the last 15 years.

“When we entered the dressing room there was something to celebrate, we took some time to realise and take advantage of the many pressures and situations that arise.

“It is right that we relax and enjoy the moment even if it is inevitable that our focus is already on the match with Sevilla.

“They are a team that have so much experience in this competition. They have already won this competition five times.

“We have many guys who they are gaining experience playing, but they are doing it very well. I am happy for them because in the end all the hard work pays off on the pitch. It is satisfying to see them happy to have reached the final of a competition.”
