Inter central midfielder Joao Mario has shared his desire to play in La Liga and discuss the kind of project he is looking to join.

The Portuguese national team player spent the 2019/20 season out on loan at Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow and after they passed up on their option to buy him permanently, Joao Mario is to return to Inter but it is largely expected that he will be moved on.

“I would like to try new experience. I would like to be able to play in La Liga because I think it is the league that best suits my style of play,” Joao Mario explained in an interview with the online edition of Spanish news outlet AS.

“I like the way Spanish teams play. I grew up in a football culture very close to the Spanish one at Sporting. I think I could adapt quickly. I would love to play in Spain. There are great teams in La Liga, it’s very competitive. Of the leagues I have not played in, that one is most attractive to me.”

The former Sporting CP player proceeded to share his delight following his recent change of agent with his interests now being looked after by Federico Pastorello, who also looks after several other Inter players, including Romelu Lukaku.

“I know they can help me. I identify a lot with the way of working of Pastorello and Fernando Couto, a star in Portugal. I remember when he played. We will do great things together.”

He then spoke on the project he wants and what it needs to do for him: “The next goal is to find a project that helps me stay in the national team for the European Championships. I am sure that we will find one and that I will be able to play regularly as a starter with Portugal,”

In conclusion he spoke on the difficulties that he has experienced whilst with Inter, where he has very rarely managed to perform to expectations.

“The first year was complicated. I arrived at the end of the summer, during a time of great change. Inter were about to bring in Frank De Boer. It was a difficult season because the Inter project was in trouble. In any case it remains the one in which I did my best and is my best memory at Inter.”
