Contacts between Benfica and Inter over Joao Mario have began according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio.
As per the report which appeared on Di Marzio’s self-named website, the Portuguese midfielder could return to his homeland and link up with Jorge Jesus, who was his manager at Sporting CP, at rivals Benfica.
Jorge Jesus has just recently taken over at Benfica and is understood to want Joao Mario as part of his squad, which is nicely taking shape ahead of the upcoming season with Jan Vertonghen, Luca Waldschmidt and Everton already arriving and many reports suggesting Edinson Cavani is set to join too.
Joao Mario joined Inter back in 2016 but ultimately failed to live up to expectations. He spent the 2019/20 season out on loan at Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow who he scored one goal and tallied six assists for in 22 appearances.
