Inter captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has revealed what it means to him to be a day away from playing in the Europa League final for the club.
Inter are due to face off against Europa League specialists Sevilla tomorrow evening at Bundesliga outfit FC Koln’s RheinEnergieSTADION with kick off scheduled for 21:00 local time in Cologne Germany.
“When I arrived at Inter I arrived to win. The situation that has arisen has not been the best, but now we can fight for something important,” he explained to the gathered media as part of the pre-match press conference which was held a short time ago.
“This must be a starting point, these matches must become a habit for Inter, today we got to play something important and I hope it will be like that tomorrow, the day after and in a month. This has always been my idea.”
The experienced Slovenian shot-stopper, who has been with Inter since 2012, then went on to speak how he and his teammates have grown as a group over the course of this season.
“We are good together. We have grown in terms of awareness and in our ability to correct mistakes. We want to improve, sacrifice ourselves and win games. Sometimes it’s not enough to be good and do what the coach wants, and in this regard we have improved. The group is strong.”
Since his arrival at the club from Udinese, Handanovic has went on to make 341 appearances across all competitions to date for Inter in which he has kept 122 clean sheets.
During the 2019/20 season, the 36-year-old made 47 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has kept 16 clean sheets.
