Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has insisted that Inter must move forward despite the obvious disappointment following their Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.

Inter took the lead via Romelu Lukaku but it was short lived as Sevilla retaliated soon after via Luuk de Jong. The Dutchman then put Sevilla ahead before Diego Godin tied things for Inter which meant the teams went in level at half time.

In a second half of few chances, it was Sevilla who prevailed in the end as Romelu Lukaku scored an own goal to give the Spaniard’s what proved to be a winning third goal.

“There is great bitterness and great disappointment, we need to go on and we hope to play many more of these matches,” he remarked in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia a short while after the full time whistle went in Cologne, Germany.

He then spoke on a moment of the match which could have meant a different outcome come the end and the Lukaku’s own goal.

“It’d be easy to point to various things that went wrong, but we had a big chance with Lukaku and it could’ve been a different game there.

“We were two very open and attacking teams. We should’ve held the ball better in the second half, as I think they were more tired and we had more fuel in the tank.

“Their third goal was unfortunate as it was going wide and it just hit Romelu’s foot, so that was bad luck and ultimately decided the match.”

In conclusion he spoke on what the goals are for the upcoming season.

“We can build on the solid foundations for next season. Sevilla showed themselves to be once again very tough to beat and we can learn from the experience.”
