Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed striker Romelu Lukaku’s own goal in the 3-2 Europa League finals loss to Sevilla yesterday in an interview with UEFA.com after the game, as reported by FcInterNews.

“It was a tough match for both teams, there was a lot of balance on the pitch that could have been changed by a goal. I think we had the opportunity to score with Lukaku and Gagliardini, instead we conceded the third goal with Romelu’s own goal.”

He touched on how the 27-year-old Belgian was unfortunate to score an own goal as well as highlighting the qualities of their opposition.

“He was really unlucky in that instance, but I pay a lot of compliments to Sevilla, who are a good team with great experience in this competition. Many players won this cup.”

Finally, Conte spoke positively of those who have worked closely with him during his first season in charge of the Nerazzurri.

“At the same time, I want to say thanks to all my players, staff and people who have worked with me throughout the season. It has been a really tough year for many reasons, but I am proud of my players.”

Conte’s future with the club is currently clouded in doubt, as the 51-year-old Italian alluded to an early farewell from the club in post-match interviews yesterday. He will meet with club president Steven Zhang and CEO Beppe Marotta next week to discuss transfer market objectives and his future. Should he leave the Milanese club, Inter have already identified former Juventus and AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri as the perfect replacement, although he has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
