Inter coach Antonio Conte is considering a return to the Italian national team amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Nerazzurri, according to a report from Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset earlier today.

The report details how the 51-year-old Italian coach alluded to an early departure from the Nerazzurri in post-match interviews yesterday, following on from the Milanese club’s bitter 3-2 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League.

Conte has began researching the possibility and timing of a possible return to the Italian national team, a team he managed from 2014 to 2016.

Marcello Lippi’s imminent appointment as Italy technical director would facilitate a move for Conte, the report continues, considering he made Conte the captain of his Juventus squad earlier in their careers.

The idea isn’t possible in the short term, despite coach Roberto Mancini’s resentment towards the Italian football federation for not informing him of the plan to bring Lippi on board. Conte would only take over after next summer’s European Championships.
