A report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport has blamed Inter coach Antonio Conte for the Nerazzurri’s painful 3-2 Europa League final defeat to Sevilla yesterday.
The report details how the 51-year-old Italian coach set up a similar system to usual in the game and managed the first half well, with the game wide open at half time with the score settled on 2-2. Conte should have made a change in the second half, when it was clear that the momentum was with the Spanish side, but Sevilla made the first change at the 71st minute, scoring three minutes later.
Only after conceding the third goal did Conte make a triple change, the report continues, and his lack of courage in the second half is what spelled disaster for the Milanese club. The worst performing player on the pitch was 22-year-old Lautaro Martinez, who seemed invisible and failed to provide in the biggest game of his career so far. The Nerazzurri’s best performer was Nicolo Barella, who was decisive in midfield and instrumental in the two goals.
