Manchester United are in pole position to sign Barcelona’s Lionel Messi according to a report from the online edition of Spanish news outlet Deportes Cuatro.

Messi has just under a year left to run on his current contract with the Blaugrana club and his future with the Catalan based side is very much up in the air.

Manchester United are not alone in courting Messi with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter all mentioned as being interested in the report but it is Manchester United who are the best placed to sign him and have the financial muscle that it will take to bring him in.

David Beckham’s MLS franchise Inter Miami are also interested with the report explaining that former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Beckham dreams of having both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in his team although this is a more medium to long term goal rather than a short term one.
