Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has shared his belief that there is only one thing that could happen that could lead to Lionel Messi staying at Barcelona.
Messi shocked the footballing world yesterday when he sent a fax to Barcelona in which he explained his decision that he wishes to leave the club.
The 33-year-old Argentine national team player has been linked with a whole array of clubs recently with Inter among them.
It is understood that Messi wishes to exercise a clause in his contract which enables him to unilateraly terminate his contract with the Blaugrana, who he has spent his entire career with to date. Reports have however stated that Barcelona are adamant that the deadline to exercise the clause has passed.
“I renew the appeal I already made last night: Bartomeu resign! The farewell of Messi, of a legend, of a myth built at home, is the last straw. Bartomeu should leave and the elections held immediately,” Font explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
Font then went on to share the one thing that he believes could lead to the multi-time world player of the year performing a u-turn.
“Messi was, is and must be a one club player and legends like him do not go away because they are part of the history of a team forever. If there is still a slight chance of him staying at Barcelona, this can only occur if Bartomeu resigns.”
