Inter would have a serious chance of convincing Lionel Messi to join if he frees himself from Barcelona due to having Javier Zanetti at the club according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
Messi has told Barcelona that he wishes to leave the club and wishes to exercise a clause which allows him to unilaterally terminate his contract with them. If successful, Messi will become a free agent and will be free to choose his next employers.
The report from the Rome based news outlet goes on to explain that Inter’s hope of being able to possibly bring Messi to the club was born back in October 2019 and they have been working on it ever since.
Zanetti, who is an Inter legend and now the club’s vice-president, is close with the Argentine national team player and could be tasked with convincing his compatriot to join the Nerazzurri.
The presence of Lautaro Martinez at Inter cannot be understimated either. Lautaro and Messi are also friends and have struck up a partnership in the Argentine national team.
