Bayern Munich chief executive and former Inter striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has shared his belief that Inter have grown during the past season in which they came agonizingly close to winning two trophies.

“They finished second in the league and as runners up in the Europa League. They took an important step forward compared to the previous season. As my friend Guardiola says, ‘winning or losing also depends on fate.

“What matters is the quality of the play,’ and from this point of view Inter have grown,” he explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport. which appeared in today’s print edition.

The legendary ex-German national team striker proceeded to speak about Inter owned winger Ivan Perisic who spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich and Rummenigge has admitted to being in contact with his opposite number at Inter, Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta, over him.

“Ivan did well, with him we won three trophies. We haven’t made a decision yet. At the time of the Coronavirus we have to evaluate well how to behave on the market.

“Playing without spectators is a problem for all clubs. There is time for Perisic, I am in contact with my friend Marotta.”

Rummenigge then went on to share his disappointment that Bayern Munich and Inter were unable to meet in next month’s UEFA Super Cup and spoke briefly on Inter’s Europa League final loss to Sevilla just under one week ago.

“It’s a pity not to be able play the European Super Cup against Inter. That would have been a dream. My favourite match. I’m also sorry because Sevilla-Inter was the best final since the Europa League has existed.”

Rummenigge was then quizzed on the ongoing speculation linking the club with a potential move for Inter central midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to which he simply responded: “No comment.”
