Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has asked many questions following Tuesday’s announcement that Antonio Conte will be continuing on as manager of Inter.

Conte’s future was very much up in the air but following a three and a half hour long meeting with club management and club president Steven Zhang, it was decided that Conte would remain in charge of the Nerazzurri club, who still has just under two years left to run on his contract with the club.

“Who judges if Inter have signed good players or simply the best possible? Who can judge with universal accuracy whether Vidal or Eriksen is better?” he began his latest editorial piece which he wrote for Corriere della Sera, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition of the Italian daily newspaper.

“Inter have the right to ask their coach to win, it’s up to the coach to say if this is possible. What’s the problem? There is no one’s fault, only needs and vanities to be respected.

“People think that saying he wants to win is equivalent to having already won, this is the weight that Conte feels on his shoulders but that no one has ever asked him, except for his salary and his sporting religion.”

Sconcerti then went on to share his belief that things could have been solved in private without Conte having to have multiple public outbursts.

“It seems to me that this story was based on pinpricks rather than on any real reasons. They were private stories that could have been solved in the darkness of individual souls. There is no stronger communication than the choices of a coach.”

In his first season in charge of Inter, Conte led Inter to a second placed finish in Serie A, the semi finals of the Coppa Italia and the final of the Europa League, in which Inter finished as runners up.
