Benevento manager Filippo Inzaghi has shared his disappointment that their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Serie A season is postponed.

The 2020/21 Serie A fixture list was revealed in full yesterday and the 2019/20 Serie B champions were handed a home tie to start the season against Inter to mark their return to the top flight.

The match will however not take place on the scheduled date of September 20 as Inter requested the postponement of their opening fixture to allow them to have an adequate rest and preparation period following their 2019/20 campaign that nearly lasted an entire calendar year.

The Nerazzurri club’s request was granted by league organisers and it remains unclear when the postponed match will be rescheduled for.

“How annoying that we don’t get to play when the season starts to celebrate our return to Serie A,” Inzaghi explained following the fixture release in an interview with Benevento’s official club website.

The former AC Milan player did however state that the postponement of the match could be a blessing in disguise as far as fans of the Campania based club are concerned.

“However, this postponement, in part, consoles me above all for the fans who I hope will be able to perhaps be present in the stands of the Stadio Ciro Vigorito to admire a great team in this league.”
