Inter central defender Alessandro Bastoni has spoken on the exact moment when he learned that he had been called up to the senior Italian national team for the first time.
“I was on vacation on a boat with my girlfriend, I practically threw her overboard. It was a strong feeling, the crowning of a dream,” he explained in an interview wih the official YouTube channel of the Italian national team.
Next the highly rated youngster was asked who was the first person that he called upon learning of his call-up from Roberto Mancini.
“I immediately called my father. I spent ten years going back and forth with him as my driver. It is a great satisfaction for both of us.”
The former Atalanta player, who is under contract with Inter until 2023, then spoke on which song he chose as part of his initiation into the national team.
“I chose 50 Special because I thought it could create enthusiasm in the group. It was important not to be the worst, which was Locatelli.”
Next he spoke on Inter’s Europa League journey in the recently concluded 2019/20 season and what that made him realise.
“Getting to the Europa League final was a great milestone, whilst the others started training again, we had to finish the season. That was the moment when I realised that we have done something great.”
In conclusion he was asked what his dream debut for the Italian national team would be like to which he responded: “First of all to start and with me being a defender to stop a goal going in.”
In the 2019/20 season, Bastoni made 33 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored two goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
