The injury that Inter central back Stefan de Vrij has sustained is a slight ankle sprain according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was aired a short time ago.

Earlier on today the Dutch national team confirmed that de Vrij had sustained an injury but did not disclose what injury the defender had sustained.

Sky Sport Italia state it is in fact a slight ankle sprain and Gazzetta dello Sport, via their online edition, state that de Vrij will be back in Milan tomorrow to have his injury examined and a meeting with Inter club doctor Piero Volpi is also scheduled to take place.

During the recently concluded 2019/20 season, de Vrij, who was named the top defender in Serie A, made 46 appearances across all competitions. In his time on the park, which totalled just over 3900 minutes, he scored four goals and provided five assists for his teammates.
