Stefan de Vrij’s injury will be assessed today according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Inter central defender was forced to withdraw from the Dutch national team squad yesterday due to picking up a slight ankle sprain and will be back in Milan today to have his injury looked at.

Inter club doctor Piero Volpi and Inter’s medical staff will be the ones to examine de Vrij’s injury and determine the best course of action for him in terms of recovery.

de Vrij is suspended for Inter’s first game of the 2020/21 Serie A season against Fiorentina in just over three weeks time and it remains to be seen whether he will be back for the match against Benevento on September 30.

During the 2019/20 season, de Vrij made 46 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he scored four goals and provided a total of five assists for his teammates.
