French side Rennes are interested in signing Inter defender Diego Godin but his high wages may stop a potential move, according to a report from French media outlet Le10Sport earlier today.

The report details how Rennes coach Julien Stephan is looking for an experienced veteran defender and has specifically identified the 34-year-old Uruguayan as an option to fill that role. The player has struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s three-man defense and so the club wouldn’t be against letting him leave this summer.

The main obstacle is Godin’s high wages, the report continues. The player’s salary is too high for the French club and so talks are ongoing to see what can be done. The former Atletico Madrid defender still has two years left on his contract in Milan but the Nerazzurri would be happy to let him leave on a free transfer in order to lighten up their wage bill.
