Inter defender Diego Godin recently phoned compatriot and friend Edinson Cavani to ask his opinion about French side Rennes and Ligue 1, according to a report from French newspaper Ouest France earlier today.

The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender has been linked with the French club recently, with Rennes keen to sign an experienced centre back to help guide the backline. Despite having two years left on his contract, the Milanese club would be open to letting him leave on a free transfer this window, in order to lower their overall wage bill.

Godin recently called Cavani, the report continues, in order to ask his opinion about the competitiveness of the French topflight and his thoughts on Rennes as a club. One issue that may stop the former Atletico Madrid man joining the Ligue 1 side is his high wages. First contacts have been made and talks are currently ongoing.
