Lazio have overtaken Inter in the race to sign Hellas Verona starlet Marash Kumbulla, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

The report details how the 20-year-old Albanian defender impressed last season with the Gialloblu, helping the side keep seven clean sheets across his 26 appearances in all competitions. Roman side Lazio have been incredibly keen to sign the player for some time now and contacts have resumed between the two clubs, with Kumbulla being the Biancocelesti’s top target.

Inter have pulled out of the race to sign Kumbulla, the report continues, instead focusing on lower-cost options that are more wanted by coach Antonio Conte. The Milanese club are close to finalizing a deal for Roma’s Aleksandar Kolarov, essentially confirming that they are no longer interested in the 20-year-old Albanian. Contracted to the Gialloblu until 2022, Lazio will now work to close out the deal as soon as possible.
