Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella discussed the Nerazzurri’s work under coach Antonio Conte last season in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai Sport after Italy’s 1-1 draw against Bosnia in the Nations League yesterday.

The 23-year-old Italian commented on how important it is for the club that Conte’s position as head coach was confirmed.

“Yes, I think Inter are creating something important. Surely losing the final of the Europa League was not good for anyone, from the club to the players. We cared a lot, we had come a long way. We are happy that the coach stayed, nothing else.”

Barella, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, impressed in his debut season in Milan under Conte. He made 41 appearances across all competitions, for a total of 3085 minutes. In that time, he scored four goals and provided eight assists, with his high work rate and passing impressing many.

Conte’s future at Inter seemed uncertain following on from the Nerazzurri’s disappointing Europa League final loss to Sevilla last month, but a meeting with the board and president Steven Zhang confirmed his position at the club. Inter have now been looking to sign players specifically wanted by the 51-year-old, like Arturo Vidal and Aleksandar Kolarov.
