Brescia president Massimo Cellino discussed Italian talent Sandro Tonali, his transfer to AC Milan and the interest of Inter in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper il Messaggero.

“It’s never happened to me, discovering such a strong player. I would have liked to keep him, but unfortunately the dream was shattered by our relegation and the uncertainty transmitted by the pandemic.”

He touched on how the Nerazzurri were interested in signing the 20-year-old Italian but their failure to close out a deal saw him look elsewhere.

“Inter? The way they acted was a mistake. Marotta wanted him and Conte adores him. The clubs that overlooked were rejected precisely because there was the Nerazzurri. But the player also wanted to know his future.”

The Brescia president commented on the Rossoneri’s purchase of Tonali, the club the player famously supported as a child.

“The deal with them gave me extra pleasure. I also respected a club that gave value to money. Maldini has the AC Milan DNA and has all the prerequisites to become a great manager.”

Finally, Cellino discussed where he expected Tonali to go and other market curiosities.

“I would have expected to see Sandro in Roma, a great team, a warm city. Baldissoni told me some time ago that he was a dream of theirs, but now I don’t know who’s in charge of the Giallorossi market. I had an excellent relationship with Sensi and I know Sabatini very well. I still remember the Nainggolan deal, it was fantastic.”

Inter were heavily linked with Tonali for months and even reached personal terms with the 20-year-old Italian back in April, but failed to close out a deal as they focused on their season and other targets. AC Milan took advantage of the situation to swoop in and finalise a deal for the player. The Nerazzurri are now looking for more experienced players in midfield.
