Inter linked Olivier Giroud discussed his current role at Chelsea and his desire to take to the pitch in an interview with French media outlet Telefoot yesterday.

“I haven’t talked to Lampard. One thing is certain, the competition will take us all to the top. A great club must have different options for each position.”

The 33-year-old Frenchman then touched on how he hopes to play still for the Blues, despite the arrival of German star Timo Werner.

“I’m here, I finished the season well and showed the coach that he could count on me. Werner does not have my characteristics, I hope to play.”

Giroud, who is contracted to the Blues until the end of next season, has been linked with Inter for a while now, as coach Antonio Conte is looking for the right backup for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. The 33-year-old Frenchman was incredibly close to signing for the Milanese club in the January transfer window, but the deal fell through after Inter placed all their focus on signing Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen from Tottenham. The former Arsenal forward made 25 appearances across all competitions last season, for a total of 1408 minutes. In that time, he scored 10 goals and provided one assist.
