Legendary Inter captain and current club vice-president Javier Zanetti has remained tight lipped when quizzed on the ongoing media speculation linking Arturo Vidal with an imminent transfer to Inter.

Reports in the media have stated for several weeks that Vidal has already agreed terms with Inter and will join them on a free transfer once he comes to an agreement over a contract termination with them.

“Vidal? He is a player with great qualities and personality, but today he is a Barcelona player,” he explained in an interview with Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, which was aired a short time ago.

Zanetti proceeded to speak on Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, who has grown massively during the past season, in which he was a regular starter and struck up a lethal partnership with Romelu Lukaku.

“I am very happy for the moment he is experiencing. He did a lot to get to the national team, I think Argentina can have number 9 for many years in him. Will he go to Barcelona? To date there is no negotiation with Barcelona for Lautaro.”

Zanetti was then asked about Inter being linked with a move for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who looked set to leave before performing a u-turn and deciding to stay at the La Liga club in the end.

“The pandemic has hurt all the clubs, Inter were not in a position to be able to make an offer for Messi. It is right for Leo to continue at Barcelona, it is his home but he could play well in any league because he is a phenomenon.”
