Former Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has sang the praises of current Inter number one Samir Handanovic and shared his hopes to see Handanovic win silverware with the Nerazzurri club.

Handanovic is Inter’s second longest serving player of the current playing squad having been with the club since the Summer of 2012.

The veteran Slovenian shot-stopper has been virtually ever present for Inter since his arrival at the club from Udinese with him having made 342 appearances across all competitions for the club, in which he has kept 122 clean sheets.

“We resemble each other a little physically as well as in characteristics. Many years have passed since I was playing, I don’t like to make comparisons but Samir has proven to be a great goalkeeper as well as a man of great depth,” he explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Libero, which appeared in Monday’s print edition.

Toldo, who spent nine years with Inter, then went on to add: “He is reliable, serious and concrete. He is a point of reference on and off the pitch, I really like him. I wish for him him to win important trophies with the Nerazzurri.”

During the recently concluded 2019/20 season, Handanovic, who is also Inter’s captain and under contract until the end of the coming season, made 48 appearances across all competitions and he managed to record 16 clean sheets in the process.
