Inter new boy Achraf Hakimi has revealed that Inter manager Antonio Conte was the reason he decided on a move to Inter.
“I chose this club because it has a manager who trains in the same style as me and I think it’s a very good thing. I think we will achieve great goals and try to win the title,” he began as he was presented to the media a short time ago.
“He is a great coach, with a competitive spirit and a great passion for football. One thing he transmits to the team and the fans, his spirit is a motivation, it makes you stay alive in the match.”
He was then asked whether he can be Maicon’s heir at Inter and if his experience from his two seasons in the Bundesliga could come in handy.
“The truth is that Maicon was an impressive player, with an incredible physique. I hope I can continue on his path and be remembered like him at the club.
“Will the Bundesliga experience come in handy? Of course, having had the opportunity to play every week and feeling important makes you gain confidence and experience. I think it always helps to improve the team and myself.”
Next the youngster spoke on if he knows much about the city he will spend the next period of his life in and spoke on the best moment of his career so far.
“Do I already know Milan? Not all of it, I’ve been to some restaurants. The food is very good, I like the people but I’ll have time to get to know them better, I think I’ll like it enough.
“What was the best moment of my career? The Champions League win with Real Madrid, something I dreamed of as a child. Then the World Cup with Morocco, which was a very important thing”.
Hakimi was then asked about his idol and which position he thinks he plays best on the field.
“Marcelo, I always say that. His characteristics and his way of being have helped me a lot. I was lucky enough to know him and he is a great person, I follow him a lot.
“I prefer playing out wide, but I will play where the coach wants me to. I will always do my best to help the team, but it is true that I am better off as a wing-back.
The Moroccan then spoke on what it was like to play against Inter at San Siro with Borussia Dortmund and was asked whether there were any players he admired at Inter in the past.
“It was very nice experience both the atmosphere and the fans. Now I will have to enjoy it from inside the pitch.
“Is there a player from Inter’s past that I admired? Samuel Eto’o, even if he didn’t play in my role. For me he is a point of reference because he is African like me, he made history in football.”
Hakimi was then asked whether he thinks he can fit into Conte’s 3-5-2 system and if he already knew any Inter players prior to his move.
“I think I adapt well, even at Borussia Dortmund in the last year I played with this system. I will try to help the team.
“Did I know any Inter players? Yes, I have followed many matches this season but I have also followed the team that won the Champions League. It is a historic club, which has always inspired me, with so many great players who have worn this shirt and I know them all.”
Next he went on to discuss what he thought when he heard that Inter had made an offer to sign him from Real Madrid and spoke on which team he supported as a child.
“I saw it as an opportunity to grow. This is a historic team, with fans who experience football in a special way. For me it is an extra step and I think I was not wrong in taking it. This is a great club.
“I’ve always supported Real Madrid. I’ve been there since I was seven, I grew up there and thanks to them I am the footballer I am now.”
The 21-year-old then spoke on his goals for the season and some differences between the Bunesliga and Serie A.
“I want to win the Scudetto, it hasn’t been won for many years and this is the main objective as well as doing well in the Champions League. Then improving my personal statistics too.
“I think I will improve more here because tactics are used more than in Germany. Am I faster than Alphonso Davies? I don’t know but it’s a great joy to see him play, we are both very fast.”
In conclusion Hakmi shared his expectations for the Milan derby and sent a message to the Nerazzurri fans.
“I expect to win. We want Milan to be Inter’s. I’m here to give my best and to make them happy. We hope we can do great things and win some titles.”
