Diego Godin’s decision to join Cagliari has been motivated by personal reasons according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The Uruguayan national team centre back is now considered as being out of Inter manager Antonio Conte’s project and an agreement has already been found between Inter and Cagliari for him to move to Sardinia.
Godin’s wife Sofia was born in Cagliari when her father played for the Rossoblu club during the 1990s and this played a fundamental role in his decision.
Godin can be an important player for Eusebio Di Francesco’s Cagliari and his arrival would enable Cagliari to make a leap in quality.
The 34-year-old only joined Inter in the Summer of 2019 but after just a year with the club he is set to depart. In his season with the Nerazzurri, Godin made 36 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored two goals and provided a single assist.
