Inter have identified Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey as their Plan B should they fail to sign Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how coach Antonio Conte has specifically identified the 29-year-old Kante as his top option to strengthen the midfield in this off-season, but the difficulties of acquiring the €50 million valued Frenchman mean that the club have had to consider alternatives as well. Chelsea still have a poor relationship with Conte due to his departure from the club a couple of years ago.

The top alternative is Atletico Madrid’s Thomas, the report continues. The 27-year-old Ghanaian’s contract expires with the club in 2023 and he has not renewed his deal, meaning his release clause his still €50 million.

Thomas made 46 appearances across all competitions last season, for a total of 3571 minutes. In that time, he scored four goals and provided one assist, being a strong defensive midfielder for coach Diego Simeone.
