Alfredo Pedullà: “Inter & Cagliari Working On Final Agreement For Diego Godin”

Inter defender Diego Godin is inching closer to joining fellow Serie A side Cagliari on a three-year deal, according to a report from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà on Twitter earlier today.

The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer, after his contract expired with longtime home Atletico Madrid.

The player struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system, in particular his unfamiliarity with a three-man defensive system.

Godin was often benched in place of 21-year-old Italian Alessandro Bastoni, and the Milanese club have decided to move forward with the youngster instead.

Godin’s move to Cagliari is now entering the final stages, the report continues, and in the last day and a half the player hasn’t asked for anything further in the talks, meaning the next steps are on the way.

Pedullà described the situation surrounding the 34-year-old’s move to Cagliari on Twitter, saying: “Contacts also today, they are working on the final agreement. Iin the last 36 hours the defender has asked not to consider any other proposals. Maybe afterwards.”
