Diego Godin is on the brink of leaving Inter for Cagliari according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The two clubs are close to finalising an agreement over the veteran Uruguayan national team defender with Inter giving their OK to sell the player who is no longer part of manager Antonio Conte’s plans, just one season after joining the club on a three year contract.

Inter will give Godin his salary for this month and a sort of farewell bonus which gives the player the opportunity to spread what remains of his Inter contract over two or three years at Cagliari.

The report from the Rome based news outlet states that Godin already has a connection to Sardinia as his wife was actually born there whilst her father player for Cagliari.

Last season Godin made 36 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored two goals and provided a single assist for his teammates.
