Former England and Lazio coach Sven-Göran Eriksson has revealed that he had the chance to become the coach of Inter but that the deal never materialized, he said in an interview with The Italian Football Podcast.

After José Mourinho left Inter having won the treble in 2010, rumors were circulating at the time that Eriksson was being considered for the Nerazzurri coaching position, a job which was subsequently given to Rafael Benitez.

The legendary former Lazio coach dismissed this stating that this was not the case, he was never in contention to take over the Nerazzurri at that time.

“Inter in 2010? No, but I had possibilities to go to Inter when I was in Benfica, in my second spell. The year before I arrived at Sampdoria, but Benfica didn’t let me go.

However, Eriksson added that he had the opportunity to take charge of the Nerazzurri after his second spell at Benfica, after which he returned to the Serie A in 1992 and ended up taking over the reigns at Sampdoria.

Sven-Göran Eriksson spent 13 and half seasons coaching in Italy winning 9 of his 18 career titles whilst in charge of Roma, Sampdoria and Lazio before taking over the English national team in January 2001.
