Former Inter striker Aldo Serena has shared his belief that Romelu Lukaku will be able to replicate last season’s form in this season.

Last season, Inter’s most expensive player in club history, wasted no time in making his mark with him scoring a sensational 34 goals in 51 games across all competitions in his debut campaign with the club.

Lukaku proved to be absolutely pivotal for Inter and formed a formidable partnership with Lautaro Martinez up top in Antonio Conte’s side.

“Can Lukaku repeat himself? The Belgian has taken the title of captain of Inter even if he does not have the armband,” Serena explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition.

“He is the technical and moral point of reference and is in total harmony with Conte. He will repeat himself.”

Serena had two spells with Inter which totalled 11 years. His first spell came between 1978 and 1985 and he scored 11 goals in 51 league appearances during that spell with Inter which was largely made up of loan spells elsewhere.

His second spell was between 1987 and 1991 and was much better for the now 60-year-old, who scored 45 goals in 114 appearances in Serie A.
